Interim efficiency with MEU-preferences

چکیده

Recently Kajii and Ui [17] proposed to characterize interim efficient allocations in an exchange economy under asymmetric information when uncertainty is represented by multiple posteriors. When agents have Bewley’s incomplete preferences, Kajii and Ui [17] proposed a necessary and sufficient condition on the set of posteriors. However, when agents have Gilboa–Schmeidler’s MaxMin expected utility preferences, they only propose a sufficient condition. The objective of this paper is to complete Kajii and Ui’s work by proposing a necessary and sufficient condition for interim efficiency for various models of ambiguity aversion and in particular MaxMin expected utility. Our proof is based on a direct application of some results proposed by Rigotti, Shannon and Stralecki [24]. JEL Classification: D81; D82; D84

Ambiguity aversion solves the conflict between efficiency and incentive compatibility∗

The conflict between Pareto optimality and incentive compatibility, that is, the fact that some Pareto optimal (efficient) allocations are not incentive compatible is a fundamental fact in information economics, mechanism design and general equilibrium with asymmetric information. This important result was obtained assuming that the individuals are expected utility maximizers. Although this ass...

Many-objective robust decision making for managing an ecosystem with a deeply uncertain threshold response

Managing ecosystems with deeply uncertain threshold responses and multiple decision makers poses nontrivial decision analytical challenges. The problem is imbued with deep uncertainties because decision makers do not know or cannot converge on a single probability density function for each key parameter, a perfect model structure, or a single adequate objective. The existing literature on manag...

Asymptotic Maximum Entropy Principle for Utility Elicitation under High Uncertainty and Partial Information

Decision making has proposed multiple methods to help the decision maker in his analysis, by suggesting ways of formalization of the preferences as well as the assessment of the uncertainties. Although these techniques are established and proven to be mathematically sound, experience has shown that in certain situations we tend to avoid the formal approach by acting intuitively. Especially, whe...

Relevance and Symmetry∗

This paper provides a method to identify components of preference reflecting information and those reflecting only tastes. Important to this method is the identification of a unique set of revealed probability assignments (called relevant measures) from preferences over acts. We characterize these relevant measures and show where they appear in representations of preferences. This method works ...
